Terms, Conditions, Privacy & Subscription Policy

Updated to include POPIA compliance, subscription terms, trial billing, document storage, beneficiary access, and plain-language customer terms.

1. POPIA & Privacy Protection

CheckiCover processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013.

We may collect identity information, contact details, policy information, beneficiary information, wills, insurance policies, and other documents uploaded by users.

Information is processed solely for:

  • Secure document storage
  • Beneficiary management and verification
  • Policy tracing and retrieval
  • Customer support
  • Billing and subscription administration
  • Compliance with legal obligations

Users have the right to access, correct, object to processing, or request deletion of personal information subject to legal and operational requirements.

2. Security and Confidentiality

CheckiCover shall:

  • Treat all personal information as confidential.
  • Restrict access to authorised personnel only.
  • Implement encryption and appropriate security safeguards.
  • Notify users of material security breaches where required by law.

3. Free Trial and Subscription

Users may receive a free trial period. A valid payment method is required to activate the trial.

No charge is made during the trial period.

If the user does not cancel before the trial expires:

  • The subscription automatically converts to a paid subscription.
  • The stored payment method is automatically charged.
  • Billing continues monthly until cancelled.

4. Cancellation

Users may cancel at any time.

If cancelled during the trial:

  • No subscription fee is charged.

If cancelled after billing starts:

  • Access remains active until the end of the paid billing period.
  • No partial refunds are issued unless required by law.

5. Document Storage and Beneficiary Access

CheckiCover provides secure storage for insurance policies, wills, and other important documents.

While the subscription remains active:

  • Users have full access to their stored information.
  • Beneficiary services remain active.

Following cancellation or prolonged non-payment:

  • Access may be suspended.
  • Beneficiary access functionality may be restricted.
  • Data may be retained for a limited retention period before deletion.

Beneficiary access following death is subject to verification procedures and applicable law.

6. Third-Party Service Providers

CheckiCover may use third-party providers including cloud hosting providers, payment processors, communication providers, auditors, legal advisors, and verification partners.

Personal information is never sold.

7. International Data Transfers

Where information is transferred outside South Africa, CheckiCover will ensure adequate safeguards and compliance with POPIA requirements for trans-border information flows.

8. User Rights

Users may:

  • Request access to personal information.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion where legally permissible.
  • Withdraw consent where applicable.

9. Plain-Language Customer Terms

How CheckiCover Works

  • You receive a free trial.
  • You must add a payment card to start the trial.
  • You are not charged during the trial.
  • If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically.
  • You can cancel anytime.
  • Your documents remain accessible while your subscription is active.
  • If you stop paying, access may be restricted and data may eventually be deleted.
  • Beneficiaries may gain access to information after verification if something happens to you.
  • Your information is protected under POPIA and industry-standard security measures.

10. Consent

By creating an account, starting a free trial, or using CheckiCover, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • You have read these Terms.
  • You consent to the processing of personal information.
  • You authorise automatic billing after the trial period unless cancelled.
  • You understand that document access depends on an active subscription.
  • You understand that beneficiary access is subject to verification and applicable law.
